Yes, you read that correctly, a Pearson rider has beaten Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy on the track!
Pearson rider, Felix English (competing for Ireland, hence the green kit), was competing in the European Elite Track Championships in Poland. Having qualified for the men's sprint, he was put up against Chris Hoy in the first round and pulled off the shock of the championships. If you don't believe us, check out the video of the race below:
Here's what Felix had to say to Cycling Weekly: "It's nuts, I'm not even a sprinter. I was facing the best sprinter in the world and was just planning to take it from the front and expecting to lose." "The gap wasn't that big -about three lengths- so I rushed the gap on the last bend and came past him in the last 50m. He didn't notice until too late and that was it."
Chris Hoy, thinking that he had an insurmountable lead over Felix, took his foot off the gas over the last hundred metres and was made to pay the price! If you want to hear Felix's reaction to the result, check out his blog article (there is some swearing in the article, but wouldn't you be swearing if you'd just beaten Chris Hoy?!).
Needless to say, we here at Pearsons are immensely proud of Felix's achievement and we'll keep you posted on his future accomplishments.
