I know, I know, cling onto the last vestiges of summer for as long as you can, but there’s no denying it: the cross season is nearly upon us. Here at Pearsons, we’re looking forward to a season of driving long distances, getting cold, wet, dirty, and having what only a true cyclo cross rider (or the clinically insane) would call fun.
Previously, only Matt and Wilf had shown any interest in cross, but this year they look set to be joined by Shannon and Luke, who have both been setting up their newly built cross bikes. Luke has been taking a more pragmatic approach to his bike build, but Shannon has shown his typical taste in unusual colour combinations. Below you can see what happened when Matt took Shannon out for a bit of pre-race training.
As well as the more junior staff taking an interest in cross, Guy Pearson has been building a white cyclo cross bike, complete with white components, for the coming season. Yes, you read it correctly, an entirely white cyclo cross bike! So was there any specific reason for it? When asked, he replied, “white is for winners, isn't it?”
Although Guy was a medal winner in the U16 nationals, this was back in a time when Viking raids were still a serious threat. At 43, Guy is still convinced that this pedigree makes him a top prospect for the 2010/11 season and a pimped up bike is a necessity for a champion. We strongly suspect that his dreams will share the same mud-splattered fate as his once shiny white bike.
If you’re interested in joining the Pearson riders for this season’s cross, get in touch and we’ll be happy to keep you up-to-date with the races we’re going to. If, however, you prefer to stay warm dry and in one piece this winter, we’ll be posting updates here on our cross exploits throughout the season.
